On November 20, the University of Warwick welcomed a prominent delegation from Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), led by its President, Jin-Guang Teng. The visit marks a significant moment in their relationship, which has flourished over 35 years, and was hosted by Warwick’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Stuart Croft.

The occasion was part of the “One World Warwick” initiative, celebrating the university’s global community and its impactful international collaborations. PolyU, recognized as a leading institution in Asia, is known for its focus on innovation and applied research, aligning closely with Warwick’s mission to deliver research and education that effect real-world change.

A central highlight of the visit was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which outlines ambitious plans for future collaborations. This includes the introduction of a Joint Seed Fund aimed at supporting new research partnerships, encouraging academics from both institutions to explore innovative ideas and develop joint projects.

The institutions also renewed their Student Mobility Agreement, reinforcing their commitment to providing enriching international experiences for students. This agreement continues to facilitate opportunities for students to study abroad, ensuring graduates are equipped with the necessary global perspectives and skills for today’s interconnected world.

During the signing ceremony, Professor Croft emphasized the importance of international partnerships in enhancing academic excellence and societal impact. He noted the longstanding belief that collaboration drives innovation, citing nearly four decades of successful collaboration focused on advancing education, research, and global opportunities.

This presidential-level visit signifies an important advancement in Warwick’s international strategy, establishing stronger partnerships across Asia. With renewed agreements and new initiatives, Warwick and PolyU aim to further shape the future of education and research through collaboration and innovation.
