Warwick Manufacturing Group and Hong Kong Polytechnic University Celebrate 35-Year Partnership
In a notable celebration of international academic collaboration, the Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG) at the University of Warwick marked 35 years of partnership with Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) on November 27, 2025. The evening event at PolyU highlighted the enduring relationship between the two institutions, which has thrived since the partnership was established in 1990.
This significant milestone coincides with two anniversaries: the Integrated Graduate Development Scheme (IGDS), WMG's first international program, and the 65th anniversary of PolyU's Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE), a key player in launching the collaboration.
Attendees included WMG Dean Professor Kerry Kirwan and prominent faculty from PolyU, such as Professor H. C. Man and Professor Xiaowen Fu. Professor Kirwan reflected on the strong ties forged over the decades, emphasizing how the partnership has fostered innovation and opportunities for shared learning between students, academics, and industry leaders.
Since its inception, the IGDS has graduated more than 4,000 students, with 218 recently completing the program, expanding its alumni network. The initiative's success has inspired similar programs in countries like China, Cyprus, and Malaysia, enhancing WMG's global footprint.
Looking to the future, both institutions expressed commitment to further collaboration, aiming to develop new courses and research opportunities. The celebration not only recognized past achievements but also set an ambitious agenda for continued partnership in education and research, driving forward their mutual commitment to innovation and societal impact.
